Basic Safety to note…

Hi all,

Participating in this event will be an enjoyable one if everyone take sometime to observe some basic safety observation. Here are some information, we would like to share.

THE GLOVES. (Protect your hands)
For this event, we have 2 gloves that we make it compulsory for our participants to wear.

disposable gloves

The inner lining, we are providing plastics gloves, we called it the “Chicken Rice gloves”(It is because we commonly saw it being used by Chicken Rice seller).

engineering gloves

The outer layer, we have a slightly tougher material, we called it engineering gloves. Please note this gloves simply provide a layer or barrier from the object you will be touching. It does not provide any puncture injury or good protection from cuts. So if you think the item are too heavy, sharp and /or rusty best not to touch them.

Remember to wash your hand after the event. Do change the gloves if damaged.

TAKE CARE OF YOUR BACK.
Simply don’t carry heavy things alone. Work as a team. Too heavy just note it in the data card and estimate the weight will do.

When you carry the trash bag that may be filled with heavy items becareful.

FOOTWEAR.
We strongly encounrage you to wear covered shoes. We do not want anyone to step on any sharp object. Don’t worry if sands get into the shoes, there is a washing bay you can cleanup later.

SUN PROTECTION LOTION.
If you get sun burn easily, get some and apply on you regularly. Best to apply at least 2 hours or when your skin has been in contact with water. Wear a short sleeve shirt or polo-t.

MOSQUITO REPELLENT.
Apply this if you need protection from mosquitoes. Although during recce, we do not see any evidents of mosquitoes but its ok if you want to use it. But don’t overuse. Especially if you decide to wear sun protection lotion and mosquito repellent.

WALK DON’T RUN.
We are having a coastal cleanup and data collection, not an “Amazing Race”. Take your time enjoy the view, talk with friends. You should have about 30 minutes to complete your event. Look before your step, you may encounter pot holes etc. So be careful.

If you got hurt, don’t panic. Approach your group leaders, they will bring you to the first aiders to take care of you.

Lastly enjoy yourself, make friends and see you this coming Saturday, 20th Sept 2008.
