Well to make long story short, this activity was introduced to us by one of our Lecturer Mr Christopher Pang. The club “NYP Geo Council”, an environmental awareness group in Nanyang Polytechinic, adopted this activity as her annual green activity. With the support of the student development officer Mr Tin, the club started embarking in this event.
Initially started to focus only students in the school. Attracting students not only locally but our fellow asian students were interested too. There was once a project where the club canoe all theway to Pulau Seletar and also a boat ride there once when canoe was not possible. Sad to say the island is now restricted but how know one day we may try there again.
A few years later one of its members introduces the idea to share this interesting activities to primary schools nearby. Main objective is to do an outreach on this environemntal activities and to introduce the name of the polytechnic and its capable students to these young students. Mr Guru, a student development officer which took over Mr Tin was also supportive in this programme. Thus we took the challenge to embark this activity with a local youth group in Ang Mo Kio. Yio Chu Kang CC Youth Group has been partnering NYP Geo Council in the effort to spread this green message.
The club and the youth group has been doing the these activity since 2002. The effort is still going strong. Many committee from NYP Geo Council and Yio Chu Kang CC Youth Group has collaborated in this event. We are hoping to continue in this effort to spread the message and do our little effort to make our world a better place.
